This week we got back into our routine of verse-by-verse study of Acts. We read through the entirety of Peter’s first sermon/speech, and then closely examined verses 14-21. We discussed the inspiration of the Scripture and Luke’s dedication to accurate transmission of facts and the challenge of summarizing this speech. We also learned an eight-syllable word: SEPTUAGINTALIZATION. Then, we analyzed the first part of his oration where Peter defended the group as sober, but turned around and accused their accusers. Lastly, we had a lively discussion about the significance of the coming of the Holy Spirit as fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy.
