This week our guest teacher, Craig Bondy, guided the class in a more accurate understanding of the high priesthood in the Old Testament versus that of first century Judea. Building on this, we looked up a number of passages in the Gospels and Acts which refer to the High Priest as either Annas or Caiaphas. We compared the apparent discrepancy in light of religious norms at the time and concluded that there was no discrepancy—both references were accurate. We also briefly discussed the second arrest of the apostles and their apparent protection from mob stoning by the Temple Guard (and foreshadowing of Stephen’s martyrdom in Chapter 7).
